FrontPage Disscussion
October 03, 2013
FrontPage- Dominique DuPrima host and producer of KJLH(102.3 FM) talks with Jovanka Beckles, Council Woman, Richmond, CA about Richmond’s program to prevent foreclosures
Councilwoman Beckles describes how the city of Richmond will utilize eminent domain, with the help of investors from Mortgage Resolutions Partners or MRP, who will then bond these previous investment holders at close to current appraised market value. By implementing eminent domain, a government agency will be able to claim underwater mortgages from unrelenting investors. MRP will then readily line up homeowners with new mortgages holders and homeowners’ mortgages are adjusted to current market value.
At the top of the housing market, these properties were worth upwards of $500K. Today, these same houses are worth about $300K—if that. More than half of the homeowners in Richmond, CA were ‘underwater’ with their mortgages. Since the advent of these tactics, wall-street lobbyists have been grappling with the use of eminent domain in future proceedings.
