Early Care and Education

On Monday September 23, 2013 I participated in the ECE Works Policy Summit featuring a conversation between Newark, New Jersey Mayor and Senate candidate Cory Booker and UCLA Anderson Senior Associate Dean Al Osborne, moderated by UCLA Luskin Dean Frank Gilliam.

The conversation provided a fresh look at the importance of investing in early care and education.

The consensus amongst participants: early care and education is an economic issue, a community health issue, and must be a priority if we are to maintain our city, state, and national competitiveness in years to come.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas‘ rousing call to action for all in the room to engage on ECE issues, along with First 5 LA Executive Director Kim Belshe’s description of the path First 5 LA is on to bring healthcare and ECE opportunities to all of Los Angeles’ youngest residents give us all direction as we continue to do this work together.

Mayor Cory Booker: “Our greatest natural resource isn’t oil or gas; it’s the genius of human potential.”
