Dear clients and friends…
Dear Clients and Friends,
My name is Lourdes, a home preservation specialist as well as our marketing/outreach manager here at Wealth Management Financial Advisors. You may have met me or spoken to me over the phone at one point or another in the past two years. As a first generation Filipino American, the natural disasters of this past year have been especially upsetting. My paternal grandparents originally hail from the near the affected areas. Throughout my life, I have visited my parents’ homeland several times.
We here at Wealth Management Financial Advisors will keep the Philippines and those affected by typhoon Yolanda in our hearts and prayers during this time. We are accepting donations at our office until
November 25, 2013.
Items most needed are:
Canned Goods
Dehydrated Noodles
Blankets
First Aid supplies
Personal care for women
We will be shipping directly to the affected areas through trusted sources. All of your donations will go directly to the affected areas.
Each time I return, it is a reality check. As a Filipino-American, it is easy to get caught up in the rat race and complain about the smallest “first world problems” when in hindsight, there are many people who struggle to meet their basic needs every day.
Typhoon Yolanda is said to be one of the strongest typhoons on record. With 195 mph winds and gusts at 235 mph, the storm is over 300 miles wide, and has devastated 6 islands in the center of the county. Experts believe the death toll could rise up to 10,000. It’s only been a few days since the typhoon, and already more than 1,200 deaths have officially been recorded.
In 2013, the Philippines have already been hit by three typhoons. Yolanda is the fourth and definitely the strongest. Last month, a strong earthquake based out of Bohol displaced thousands of families from their homes and had claimed hundreds of lives. In the midst of recovery efforts from the earthquake, and with thousands of families still living in tents in evacuation centers, this typhoon hit that same area shortly after.
